That wacky cult of 'Marxers'

It is astonishing how easily the wacky, cultish followers of Karl Marx have passed themselves off with the respectable-sounding title of 'Marxist'. The '-ist' suffix , echoing 'scientist' and 'physicist', makes it seem as though there were a solid intellectual foundation to their beliefs. There is not.

Collectivists have a history that long precedes Marx and Engels. Reactionary in their essence, these movements tended to oppose not only the established economic order, but also established religion. This negation, this fundamental nihilism, creates a vacuum in which any sort of bizarre creed can find a home; for instance, the 'Cult of Reason' that arose briefly during the tumult of the French Revolution. [For any cult members reading this, let me explain the problem here: 'Reason' is merely a mental operation, devoid of any inherent value system, and so capable of justifying absolutely anything.]

Equally bizarre, but far more academic-sounding, is the belief in historical materialism. With pretenses to scientificity, cult members are assured participation in an historical (and quasi-mystical) process leading to their own 'Promised Land', the dictatorship of the proletariat. No scientific equations or empirical proofs are provided, only rhetoric and emotion, and like all cults they shun debate, preferring rather to attack and destroy blasphemers as 'reactionary' to their sacred historical process.

The darkest side of this cult is its adherence to philosophical materialism. Where there is no God, where there is no soul, human beings are necessarily reduced to materiel. Inhumanity, slaughter, and genocide are no more compelling than ledger entries, so long as they serve the journey to the Promised Land. It is what these people ultimately represent.

So please, can we stop flattering them with the title 'Marxist'? 'Marxer' would be better, to use their own dismissive '-er' suffix against them (cf 'tenther' and 'birther'). Or, we could simply cut to the chase and call them 'Godless agitators'...

Time for a nationwide general strike?

Now that Obamacare has been forced upon us, we are faced with the reality of elected officials who simply don't care what we want. Millions of telephone calls and emails were ignored, while the arm-twisting by White House thugs got results. What are our prospects as we look ahead to a likely push for amnesty?

It perhaps doesn't need to be pointed out, but just in case: Millions of new voters, the vast majority of whom will vote themselves entitlements, would for our lifetimes disenfranchise all those in favor of limited government. Add to this the further strain created on the-already-headed-for bankruptcy systems of Social Security and health care, and you have a recipe for disaster.

Of course, calls and emails to members of Congress should be continued. As a democracy, that's how things are supposed to work. But if they proceed to ignore us again, how do we take our opposition and outrage to the next level? I propose we use a beloved, tried-and-true tactic of the Left, but on steroids: a nationwide general strike.

It might seem odd, since those opposing this administration are hardly the sort to normally engage in this kind of (seemingly) unproductive activity. We are the producers of our country, the tax-paying and law-abiding workaday people who make it all run smoothly; but we are also, unfortunately, the most under attack. If we fail to stop them, we'll soon be slaves working in the fields of their social experiment.

The degenerates in Washington need our productivity to siphon off their wealth and power. (And to have wealth which they can divvy up amongst their favored groups.) It's time to show them who's boss. It's time to demonstrate that we can take it all away from them! A day without production or consumption, maybe a few sit-ins here and there to cause traffic jams? If we can shut this nation down, for even a day, perhaps they will listen.

So how about it? A nationwide 'Day without Legals'?

Some things we can do

We have a freedom-hating ideologue in the White House, a corrupt Congress, and an enslaving financial system courtesy of the Federal Reserve. Powerful forces seem to be conspiring to impoverish and destroy our nation through massive debt. It is difficult not to feel overwhelmed and helpless. But we are not. Here are a few things we can do.

1. Become a proselytizer for freedom- The very survival of freedom may depend on our ability to convey to others, with clarity and passion, how endangered our freedom currently is. Many people simply don't pay attention until they feel events affecting them personally; ask if they like the idea of a hugely enlarged and empowered IRS, higher income taxes, an array of hidden taxes in everything from energy costs to inflation, and government bureaucrats making personal decisions for them. Do taxes and secret police make you free?

2. Utilize existing social networks- Beliefs are spread most vigorously not from top-down pronouncements of leaders or from mass-media blitzes, but through preexisting networks of family and friends, as demonstrated (albeit in a different context) by Rodney Stark. This is perhaps our greatest strength, and what the opposition fears most; and incidentally, why the Left has been trying to undermine both family and church for so long. Ever wonder why they place such great emphasis on community organizing?

3. Employ tactics of the Left- We need to use their own weapons against them. Boycotts, civil disobedience, leafleting, and general strikes all need to be considered.

4. Face-to-face networking- The Internet is a fantastic resource, but in times of trouble, (real or fabricated) it could be taken away. Get to know like-minded people in your area, at meetings and rallies. You'll need each other should the Internet, and talk radio, suddenly vanish.

5. Demonize the target- Again, as the Left has done for ages. Is Obama really in charge? Or is he just a front man for communists, or international banking cartels? A Manchurian candidate? I don't pretend to know the answer. Whoever is pulling the strings aside, Obama is now the face of oppression, and as such, needs to be maligned and ridiculed in the public sphere as much as possible. [Random idea: Purchase magnetic sheets onto which you can affix your bumper stickers. That way, you can remove them when your car is unattended, and avoid potential vandalism.]

6. Consider the informal economy- This is not to endorse illegal behavior. But each one of us must decide at what point the funding of a tyrannical regime becomes immoral; when the evasion of such becomes the only option of conscience. 'Off the books' transactions and bartering (of either goods or services) are examples to keep in mind, should such necessity arise in one's heart.

7. Be prepared for the worst- Ultimately, the greatest deterrent to despotism is the citizenry's willingness, and ability, to rebel against it (including by means of unified non-compliance and work stoppages). Thus, the ceaseless attacks on the Second Amendment. But beyond defending our right to bear arms, we need a commonly agreed upon 'tipping point' at which our resistance will be by any and all means, because if such a terrible day should come, we will likely also have lost the Internet (or it will be used to ferret out resisters). What should this tipping point be? The suspension of elections? The overturning, by Executive Order or otherwise, of the Second Amendment? And what should our course of action be? A general strike, as in the Velvet Revolution? This is a discussion that very much needs to take place. [Random thought: Did you know that union thugs have long used caltrops to vex and hamper their opponents?]
